Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and Austria Backpacking Trip Itinerary
Day 1 - Wednesday, September 15th:
- Take the 12:45pm flight from LAX and arrive at LHR at 7:10am (next day).
Day 2 - Thursday, September 16th: (Sunrise: 6:37am, Sunset: 7:13pm)
- Arrive at London Heathrow Airport around 7:10am.
- Take the tube from the LHR Terminal 4 Tube Station to St. Pancras Station and drop bags off (luggage hold).
- Take the tube to Green Park Station.
- Sightsee in London for the remainder of the day and see sights such as: Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul's Cathedral, Millennium Bridge, Tower of London, and Tower Bridge.
- Take the tube from Tower Hill to King's Cross Station.
- Take the 7:34pm Eurostar train from London and arrive in Brussels, Belgium (Bruxelles Midi/Zuid) at 10:33pm.
- Stay the night in Brussels' HI Youth and Family Hostel.
Day 3 - Friday, September 17th: (Sunrise: 7:21am, Sunset: 7:53pm)
- Wake up and head over to the Grand Place around 7:30am.
- Sightsee around this area and stop by the town hall and the Manneken Pis.
- Head over to the Notre Dame de la Chapelle and the Notre Dame du Sablon and go inside around 9:00am.
- Walk down to the Law Courts and the Porte de Hal before heading over to the Place Royale to sightsee.
- Stop by the Royal Palace before going to the Musical Instrument Museum at 11:00am.
- Grab some lunch and walk over to the Brussels Park to enjoy it.
- Head over to St. Michael's and St. Gudula's Cathedral around 1:00pm.
- Rent a bike and travel to the Leopold park.
- Spend time sightseeing in the area, stopping by the parliament and EU buildings, as well as the Cinquantenaire Park. (Stop by the Military Museum if time)
- Bike over to the Cantillion Brewery and tour the facility at 3:30pm.
- Walk over to the Royal Galleries of St. Hubert and explore this glass and iron roofed shopping center.
- Explore Beenhausversstratte and Jeanneke Pis before heading over to the Delirium Café for the evening.
- Stay the night in Brussels' HI Youth and Family Hostel.
Day 4 – Saturday, September 18th: (Sunrise: 7:22am, Sunset: 7:50pm)
- Start the morning early again and visit the Bourse Stock Exchange building.
- Sightsee around the area and see St. Catherine's Church, the Black Tower, as well as St. Jean Baptiste au Beguinage.
- Walk over to the Theatre de la Monnaie before heading over to the Place des Martyrs.
- Take the 94 tram at 11:03am from Congres and arrive at Princesse Clementine at 11:20am to the Notre Dame de Laeken.
- Visit the Notre Dame de Laeken and visit the Laeken Palace as well as the Japanese and Chinese Pagodas.
- Walk over to the Atomium and ascend this monumental piece of architecture. (If time, visit Mini-Europe)
- Take the 19 tram at 2:07pm from Centenaire and arrive at Bossaert-Basilique at 2:33pm to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
- See the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
- Walk back towards the New Town and sightsee through the area.
- Head towards the center of town and spend the rest of the evening sightseeing and visiting the Poechenelle bar.
- Stay the night in Brussels' HI Youth and Family Hostel.
Day 5 – Sunday, September 19th: (Sunrise: 7:24am, Sunset: 7:53pm) (train day - benelux #1)
- Take 5:57am train from Brussels (Bruxelles Midi/Zuid) (luggage hold) and arrive in Maastricht (Maastricht) at 7:50am.
- Walk across the Sint Servaas Brug (bridge) and if there's time, visit the Dinghuis (tourist office).
- Walk through the Vrijthof (town square) and see the Basilica of St. Servatius, St John's Church, the town hall, and the Spanish Government Building.
- Walk over by the Helpoort and the Jerker tower to admire the city walls.
- Walk across the Hoge Brug (bridge) back to the train station.
- Take 10:09am train from Maastricht (Maastricht) and arrive in Dinant (Dinant) at 12:39pm.
- Head across the bridge into the city and visit the Collegial Notre Dame.
- After spending some time inside, head to the nearby ticket booth and purchase a ticket for the Citadel of Dinant.
- Either ascend the 408 stairs or hop on a cable car to reach the top.
- Enjoy a tour of the Citadel of Dinant and the spectacular views of the city.
- Option 1:( Head back down to the city and take a nice walk along the Meuse River to reach the Rocher Bayard, a rock said to have been split by the hoof of a horse trying to escape from Charlemagne.(2.5 mile round trip walk)
- Walk back along the river to the train station.)
- Option 2: (Head back down to the city and back across the bridge to the Grotte de Marveilleuse and take an hour long guided tour of these marvelous caves.
- Spend the remainder of the time walking along the Meuse River before heading back to the train station.
- Take 3:21pm train from Dinant (Dinant) and arrive in Bruges (Brugge) at 6:02pm.
- Stay the night in the Snuffel Backpacker Hostel.
Day 6 – Monday, September 20th: (Sunrise: 7:30am, Sunset: 7:50pm)
- Meet outside the Park Hotel in Zand Square at 9:15am for Quasimodo's Triple Treat Tour (Mon, Wed, Fri).
- Explore the Province of West Flanders.
- Begin by learning of the history of Bruges before making our way up to the town of Damme which is famous for its tree-lined canals and medieval buildings.
- Along the tour, visit two castles: Loppem Chateau and the moated Castle of Tillegem.
- Travel to the twin canals known as "Stinker and the Blinker" and see where the Canadians were halted for 3 months during WWII.
- Also, we will stop at the bridge to nowhere, German bunkers from WWII and the oldest Gothic building in Belgium at the monastery of Ter Doest.
- Finish off with a sample of a Belgian waffle while over-looking the Polder farmland and villages, and enjoy some Belgian chocolate after watching it made, and end with some Belgian beer.
- Return to Bruges around 5:00pm.
- Stay the night in the Snuffel Backpacker Hostel.
Day 7 – Tuesday, September 21st: (Sunrise: 7:31am, Sunset: 7:48pm)
- Head into the city early and do some sightseeing.
- Around 9:00am enter the Church of our Lady and admire Michelangelo's Madonna and Child sculpture.
- Ascend the Belfry Tower at 9:45am to see the entire city.
- Walk over to the Basilica of the Holy Blood at 10:30am and see the phial of Christ's blood.
- Go on a canal boat tour around 11:15am before grabbing some lunch.
- Enter the Halve Man Brewery for a tour at 1:00pm and climb the tower to see the entire city.
- Around 2:45pm head over to the Groeninge Museum to see the interesting and disturbing works of art.
- Spend the rest of the day sightseeing.
- Stay the night in the Snuffel Backpacker Hostel.
Day 8 – Wednesday, September 22nd: (Sunrise: 7:33am, Sunset: 7:46pm)
- Meet outside the Park Hotel in Zand Square at 9:15am for Quasimodo's Flanders Fields Tour (All days except Mon).
- This day trip concentrates on the WWI battlefields of the Great War - infamously remembered as the "Fields of Flanders".
- Stop to tread through restored trenches and stroll amongst war graces in Passchendale and Polygon Wood.
- Walk through craters and bunkers on the preserved Hill 60 battlefield and see monuments of the British Forces.
- Visit the city of Ypres which was rebuilt to medieval plans after being totally flattened in WWI.
- See the Menin Gate Memorial to the missing soldiers which contains 55,000 names.
- Return to Bruges around 5:00pm.
- Stay the night in the Snuffel Backpacker Hostel.
Day 9 – Thursday, September 23rd: (Sunrise: 7:34am, Sunset: 7:36pm) (train day - benelux #2)
- Take 6:58am train from Bruges (Brugge) and arrive in Ghent (Gent Sint Pieters) at 7:21am (luggage hold).
- Tour the Gravensteen Castle (Castle of the Counts).
- Walk through the city along Graslei and Korenlei streets and stop by St. Michael's Bridge to admire the canals.
- Go to St. Bavo Cathedral, then climb the Belfry Tower to view the entire city.
- If there's time, visit St. Nicholas' Church.
- Take 11:47am train from Ghent (Gent Sint Pieters) and arrive at Antwerp (Antwerpen Centraal) at 12:40pm (luggage hold).
- Walk through the city making stops at the Cathedral of Our Lady, St. Paul's Church, St. James' Church (if time) and St. Carlous Borremeus Church.
- Spend some time in the Grote Markt and see the Town Hall and Steen Castle.
- Stop by the KBC Tower, Europe's oldest skyscraper before heading back to the train station.
- Take 4:00pm train from Antwerp (Antwerpen Centraal) and arrive in Delft (Delft) at 5:24pm (luggage hold).
- Start walking from the train station along one of the many canals and end up at the Oude Kerk (possibly go inside).
- Walk towards the Markt Square and see the Town Hall, De Waag and the Nieuwe Kerk.
- Take a tour of the church and climb the tower to get a great view of the city.
- Continue walking along one of the canals and arrive at the Oostport.
- Grab some dinner before heading back to the train station.
- Take 8:05pm train from Delft (Delft) and arrive in Utrecht (Utrecht CS) at 8:58pm.
- Stay the night at the B&B Utrecht City Center Hostel.
Day 10 – Friday, September 24th: (Sunrise: 7:29am, Sunset: 7:35pm) (train day - benelux #3)
- Walk through Dutch city of Utrecht and see the Dom Tower and Church, relax in the cloister garden next to the church, locate the Post Office, and walk along the Oudegracht Canal through the heart of the city.
- Take 11:55am train from Utrecht (Utrecht CS) and arrive in Leiden (Leiden Centraal) at 12:37pm (luggage hold).
- Walk around the city and visit De Burcht, the city's refugee castle, the Molen de Valk (windmill) and some of the many churches around.
- Take 4:00pm train from Leiden (Leiden Centraal) and arrive in Haarlem (Haarlem) at 4:22pm (luggage hold).
- Enjoy the sights of the city including St. Bavo Cathedral, the Malen de Adrian windmill on the Spaarne River and possibly tour through the Corrie ten Boom Museum.
- Take 6:23pm train from Haarlem (Haarlem) and arrive in Amsterdam (Amsterdam CS)at 6:40pm.
- Spend an hour or so walking around downtown Amsterdam after checking into the hostel.
- Meet in front of the Victoria Hotel across from Centraal Station at 8:00pm for Randy Roy's Redlight Tour - a hour and a half tour of Amsterdam's Red Light District.
- Stay the night at the Flying Pig Downtown Hostel.
Day 11 – Saturday, September 25th: (Sunrise: 7:31am, Sunset: 7:32pm)
- Meet at 9:30am at The Damrak for Viator's Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken, & Volendam Day Trip
- Spend 4.5 hours driving through the Dutch countryside, and stop to see canals, wooden houses, windmills, and fishing villages.
- Arrive back in Amsterdam around 2:00pm.
- Walk through the city a bit more before settling down and getting a bite to eat for dinner.
- Stay the night at the Flying Pig Downtown Hostel.
Day 12 – Sunday, September 26th: (Sunrise: 7:33am, Sunset: 7:30pm)
- Head to the Anne Frank House at 9:00am, and spend an hour or so walking through her house, and learn about her life as she hid from the Nazi's.
- Make way over to Dam Square and join Sandeman's New Amsterdam Tour by 11:15am for a 3 hour walking tour of the city.
- In the afternoon, go on the St. Nicolaas Boat Club of Amsterdam's canal boat ride for between 60-90 minutes.
- Spend the rest of the afternoon/evening sightseeing in Amsterdam.
- Stay the night at the Flying Pig Downtown Hostel.
Day 13 – Monday, September 27th: (Sunrise: 7:34am, Sunset: 7:23pm) (train day - benelux #4)
- Go to Orange Bike at 9:00am and rent a bike for the day.
- Spend a few hours riding around Amsterdam - the bicycle capital of the world!
- At 11:00am head to the historic Heineken Brewery and go on a 90 minute tour of the Heineken Experience - learn about the history of Heineken, how its made, and even bottle and drink our own Heineken.
- Find a place to get some lunch before getting back on the bike and heading over to the Dutch Resistance Museum around 2:00pm to learn the Dutch's history of WWII.
- Spend the remainder of the afternoon cycling around Amsterdam and taking in the sights.
- Return the bicycles before 6:00pm.
- Take the 4:34pm train from Amsterdam (Amsterdam CS) and arrive in Luxembourg (Luxembourg Lux) at 10:40pm.
- Stay the night at the Luxembourg City Hostel.
Day 14 – Tuesday, September 28th: (Sunrise: 7:30am, Sunset: 7:21pm)
- Start the morning around 7:30am by heading out into the city for some early sightseeing.
- After an hour or so of sightseeing, rent a bike from a nearby Velo'h station and head over to the American Cemetery.
- Enter the American Cemetery around 9:00am and locate General Patton's grave as well as visit some of the other memorials.
- Head back to the city and cross over on the Adolphe Bridge, making sure to see the Place des Metz and the Bank Museum, and then spend some more time in the city (try and see the Notre Dame Cathedral during this time).
- Grab some lunch before heading over to the Bock Casemates around 12:00pm to see the underground pathways carved into the hills.
- Walk back into the city sightsee for a bit before going on a guided walking tour of the city at 2:00pm.
- See sights such as the Palace of the Grand Dukes, the Golden Lady Monument and the Quinin Chapel, a church built into the side of a hill.
- When the tour ends, start the Wenzel Circular Walk which takes approximately 2 hours.
- See sights such as the Castle Bridge, the Corniche, the Wenzel Wall and the Holy Ghost Plateau.
- After finishing the tour, walk back towards the hostel and see the Fort Ober Grunewald and Fort Thungen.
- Stay the night at the Luxembourg City Hostel.
Day 15 – Wednesday, September 29th: (Sunrise: 7:32am, Sunset: 7:19pm)
- Take the 7:15am train from Luxembourg (Luxembourg Lux) to Ettelbruck (Ettelbruck) and arrive at 7:39am.
- Take the 7:44am bus from Ettelbruck to Esch-sur-Sure (Esch/Sure, Tunnel) and arrive at 8:10am.
- Walk up to the highest point in the city to the Esch-sur-Sure castle ruins and view the city below.
- Walk back down the hill and head across one of the bridges to hike in the nearby forest area.
- After spending some time up in the hills, come back to the city center spend the remainder of time walking around the city and grab some lunch before leaving.
- Take the 11:48am bus from Esch-sur-Sure (Esch/Sure, Tunnel) to Bourscheid (Bourscheid Kirche)and arrive at 12:26pm.
- Walk up to the Bourscheid Castle ruins and spend about an hour in the castle before walking back to the bus stop.
- Take the 2:26pm bus from Bourscheid (Bourscheid Kiiche) to Vianden and arrive at 3:38pm.
- Take a quick 4 minute chairlift overlooking the city and arrive near the castle.
- Spend an hour or so exploring the Chateuau de Vianden before heading back down to the city.
- Stop by the Trinitarian Church and see its cloisters before crossing the bridge into the city.
- Spend the rest of the evening walking around and getting dinner.
- Take the 7:48pm bus from Vianden to Ettelbruck and arrive at 8:12pm.
- Take the 8:21pm train from Ettelbruck (Ettelbruck) to Luxembourg (Luxembourg Lux) and arrive at 8:45pm
- Stay the night at the Luxembourg City Hostel.
Day 16 – Thursday, September 30th: (Sunrise: 7:33am, Sunset: 7:13pm) (train day - benelux #5/ger-aus #1)
- Take the 7:17am train from Luxembourg (Luxembourg Lux) to Trier (Trier HBF) and arrive at 8:06am (luggage hold).
- After leaving the train station, stop by the Liebefraukirche before head over to St. Peter's Cathedral, Germany's oldest church.
- Spend some time inside this church before walking over to the Hauptmarkt, Trier's main town square.
- Walk over to the Porta Nigra and spend some time in this area.
- Head over to the Forum baths to see the smallest Roman baths in Trier.
- Around 10am go on a tour of Karl Marx's House and then head over to the Romerbrucke, the oldest bridge in Germany.
- Walk back across the bridge and head over to the Imperial Baths and the Amphitheater and tour both locations.
- Stop by the Elector's Palace and admire the gardens and then head over to the Konstantin Basilika for a tour of this church.
- Try and grab some lunch before getting back on the train.
- Take 12:13pm train from Trier (Trier HBF) to Cochem (Cochem Mosel) and arrive at 12:58pm.
- After dropping our bags off at the hotel, follow the Mosel river to the
castle, and after walking up its steep hill, arrive at Cochem castle around 2:00pm.
- Take a guided tour through the castle and spend a few hours enjoying the views.
- Walk back down the hill and with whatever daylight is left, visit the town square.
- Grab some dinner before heading back to the hotel for the night.
- Stay the night at Haus von Hoegen.
Day 17 – Friday, October 1st: (Sunrise: 7:30am, Sunset: 7:08pm) (train day - ger-aus #2)
- Take 7:30am train from Cochem (Cochem Mosel) to Moselkern (Moselkern) and arrive at 7:46pm.
- Hike up to Eltz Castle and take a tour of the Castle.
- Take 12:10pm (1:10pm next train) train from Moselkern (Moselkern) back to Cochem (Cochem Mosel) and arrive at 12:26pm.
- Take 2:00pm train from Cochem (Cochem Mosel) and arrive in Frankfurt (Frankfurt Main HB) at 4:13pm (luggage hold).
- Walk around Romerberg (town square) and visit St. Bartholemew's Cathedral, St. Paul's Church, and St. Nikolas' Church.
- Walk across the Eiserner Steg (bridge) and enjoy the city skyline.
- If there's time, visit the Alte Oper (Old Opera house) and the Maintower which is the tallest skyscraper in Frankfurt.
- Take 7:17pm or train from Frankfurt (Frankfurt Main HB) and arrive in Mainz (Mainz HBF) at 7:55pm.
- Check bags into a luggage hold at the Mainz HBF train station (luggage hold).
- Take the 8:30pm train from Mainz (Mainz HBF) and arrive in St. Goar (St. Goar) at 9:33pm.
- Stay the night in Loreley-Jugendherberge St. Goar Hostel.
Day 18 – Saturday, October 2nd: (Sunrise: 7:31am, Sunset: 7:04pm) (train day - ger-aus #3)
- Start the morning around 7:30am and explore the city streets. Try to catch a glimpse of Burg Katz across the river.
- Head up to Burg Rheinfels around 8:30 to explore the grounds and then enter the castle when it opens at 9:00am.
- Explore the secret passageways and tunnels before heading towards the dock.
- Take the 10:20am boat from St. Goar and arrive in Bacharach at 11:30am.
- After leaving the boat, head over to the center of the city and visit the oldest building in Bacharach, or the Altes Haus.
- Continue walking through the city and enjoy the many wall towers and old buildings left unharmed during the war.
- Start walking towards Burg Stahleck, and see St. Peter's Church and the ruins of the Werner Chapel.
- If time, head inside Burg Stahleck for a quick tour of this castle turned hostel.
- Take the 1:30pm boat from Bacharach and arrive in Rudesheim at 3:15pm.
- Walk along Rheinstrasse, the main street in Rudesheim, and see the Alderturm, or Eagle's Tower, the Boosenburg, and the Bromersburg.
- Walk up and down the Drosselgasse, which is the narrowest street in the city.
- Spend some time enjoying the vineyards and old structures of this town.
- Take the 5:15pm boat from Rudesheim and arrive in Mainz at 7:30pm.
- Grab some dinner before walking to the train station.
- Take 8:57pm train from Mainz (Mainz HBF) to Heidelberg (Heidelberg HBF) and arrive at 9:48pm.
- Stay the night in Steffi's Hostel in Heidelberg.
Day 19 – Sunday, October 3rd: (Sunrise: 7:28am, Sunset: 6:51pm) (train day - ger-aus #4)
- Take the 5:17am (or 5:58am) train from Heidelberg (Heidelberg HBF) arrive in Triberg (Triberg) at 7:43am (or 8:38am) (luggage hold).
- Exit the train station and start following the signs for the waterfall.
- Hike one of the many trains and see the Triberg waterfalls which are the tallest in Germany.
- After spending a few hours hiking and exploring, head back into the city to see the town and small shops.
- Stop and get some black forest cake before heading back to the train.
- Take the 12:39pm train from Triberg (Triberg) and arrive in Lindau Insel (Lindau HBF)at 3:24pm (luggage hold).
- From the train station, walk over to the city center and into the Markplatz to see St. Peter's Church and the Diebsturm.
- Walk along Maxmilianstrasse to the Altes Rathaus.
- After spending some time in the city, walk along the harbor and see Lake Constance and the Pulverturm.
- Head over to the lighthouse and try to get a good view of the city and the harbor.
- Take the 5:26pm (or 7:23pm) train from Lindau Insel (Lindau HBF) and arrive in Innsbruck (Innsbruck HBF) at 8:06pm (or 10:27pm).
- Stay the night in Innsbruck's Nikolaus Glockenhaus Hostel.
Day 20 – Monday, October 4th: (Sunrise: 7:17am, Sunset: 6:49pm)
- Wake up early and spend a few hours sightseeing in the city of Innsbruck between 7:15am-9:15pm.
- See various sights such as the Hofgarten, Domplatz, St. Jacob's Cathedral, Innbrucke, and the Golden Roof.
- At 9:15am, enter the Kaiserliche Hofburg Imperial Palace which served as a residence for monarchs such as Ferdinand II and many others.
- Around 10:00am, tour the Hofkirche which was built in 1553 by Emperor Maximilian I.
- At 10:20am, head over to the Stadtturm and climb its tower for a birds eye view of Innsbruck.
- Meet at the Innsbruck Tourismus building at 11:00am for an hour long guided walking tour of Innsbruck's Old Town.
- Around 12:15pm, after picking up some lunch, hop on the cable railway at the Congress Station and begin the ascent up the Nordkette Mountain.
- Spend a few hours stopping at the Hungerburg, Seegrube, and Hafelekar stations on the way up the mountain and see some great views of Innsbruck and its surrounding cities.
- On the way back down, stop at the Alpenzoo around 2:30pm and walk around the highest zoo in Europe with over 2,000 animals.
- Afterwards, take the Hungerburgbahn back to the Congress Station in the city.
- Take the 3:27pm bus from Innsbruck Haus der Begegnung and arrive at Innsbruck Schloss Ambras (Aldranser Straße) at 3:49pm.
- Take about an hour to tour Schloss Ambras which was the residence of Ferdinand II, and also contains weapons, armor, portraits, and other curiosities.
- Take either the 4:55pm or 5:35pm Hop on/Hop off shuttle from Schloss Ambras and arrive at the Basilika Wilten stop at either 5:02pm or 5:42pm.
- Walk around and go inside (if possible) the Wilten Basilika and the Wilten Abbey.
- Head back towards the city center and get some dinner before heading back to the hostel for the night.
- Stay the night in Innsbruck's Nikolaus Glockenhaus Hostel.
Day 21 – Tuesday, October 5th: (Sunrise: 7:18am, Sunset: 6:39pm) (train day - aus #1)
- Take 5:00am train from Innsbruck (Innsbruck HBF) and arrive in Zell Am See (Zell Am See) at 7:14am (luggage hold).
- Take an hour long pedal boat across the Zeller See lake.
- Explore the city and stop by the Zell am See park, Schloss Rosenberg Town Hall, the Austrian Fountain and the Town Fountain.
- Take a hike up the Schmittenhohe mountain.
- Take the 12:15pm train from Zell Am See (Zell Am See) and arrive in Bad Gastein (Bad Gastein) at 1:41pm (luggage hold).
- Head through the city by following the Gastein Ache River and its many waterfalls.
- Stop by St. Preim's Church and St. Nicholas' Church, the oldest building in the Gastein Valley, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Promenade.
- Spend the rest of the time getting lunch, admiring the city and even hiking around in the nearby forests.
- Take the 5:42pm train from Bad Gastein(Bad Gastein) and arrive in Lienz (Lienz in Osttirol) at 7:34pm.
- Take the 7:40 bus from Lienz and arrive in Heiligenblut (Heiligenblut in Ktn Hotel Post) at 8:29pm.
- Stay the night in Heilingenblut's Österreichischer Jugendherbergsverband Hostel.
Day 22 – Wednesday, October 6th: (Sunrise: 7:11am, Sunset: 6:32pm) (train day - aus #2)
- Take the 9:48am bus from Heiligenblut (Heiligenblut in Ktn Hotel Post) and arrive in Lienz (Lienz in Osttirol) at 10:55am.
- Take the 11:25am train from Lienz (Lienz in Osttirol) and arrive in Launsdorf (Launsdorf-Hochosterwitz) at 2:32pm (luggage hold).

- Leave the hostel around 7:00am, make our way over to the Lend Canal and cross one of the many bridges.
- Stop and see Johanneskirche before heading into the center of the city.
- Enter the Neuer Platz and see the Town Hall and the Lindworm fountain, which appears on Klagenfurt's crest.
- Continue heading north towards the Landhaus and St. Egid Church before heading over to the Stadthaus and Stadttheater.
- Walk over to the Heuplatz to admire the buildings before heading down to the Alter Platz.
- Start heading back towards the train station and stop by the Domkirche, Klagenfurt's main cathedral.
- Take the 9:39am train from Klagenfurt (Klagenfurt HBF) and arrive in Graz (Graz HBF) at 12:22pm (luggage hold).
- Take the 12:36pm train from Graz (Graz HBF) and arrive in Feldbach (Feldbach/Raab) at 1:33pm.
- Take the 1:36am bus from Feldbach (Feldbach/Raab) and arrive in Riegersburg (Riegersburg in Stmk Süd) at 2:05pm.
- Visit the city and Riegersburg Castle for a few hours.

- Start the morning around 7:00am and head over to the Hauptplatz where the Town Hall and Leugghaus are located.
- Walk over to the Schlossbergplatz and begin the ascend towards Schlossberg.
- After spending some time at the watchtower, head back down and enter the Murinsel.
- Walk back into the city along Sporgasse street and stop by the Grazer Dom before spending some time in Stadt park.
- Enter the Landeszeughaus around 10am and visit this armory.
- Head back to the hostel and grab the bags before walking to the train station.
- Take the 11:26am train from Graz (Graz HBF) and arrive in Mattersburg (Mattersburg) at 1:58pm (luggage hold).
- Take the 2:20pm bus from Mattersburg (Mattersburg Wiener Strasse 1/2) and arrive in Forchtenstein (Forchtenstein Burg) 2:45pm.
- Walk around the city and up to Burg Forchtenstein.
- Take the 5:15pm bus from Forchtenstein (Forchtenstein Burg) and arrive in Mattersburg (Mattersburg Weiner Strasse 1/2) at 5:44pm
- Take the 6:31pm train from Mattersburg (Mattersburg) and arrive in Vienna (Wien Mielding) at 7:28pm.
- Stay the night in the Hostel Ruthensteiner.
Day 25 – Saturday, October 9th: (Sunrise: 7:05am, Sunset: 6:18pm) (train day - aus #5)
- Take the 5:15am U-Bahn from Westbahnhof and arrive at Friedensbrucke at 5:33am (with a switch from U6 to U4 at Spittelau Bahnst).
- Make the short walk to Wien Franz Joseph Bahnhof.
- Take the 5:53am train from Vienna (Wien Franz Joseph Bahnhof) and arrive in Krems (Krems/Donau) at 7:14am.
- Walk through the city and try to find the remains of the city walls.
- Stop by the Pfarrkirche and the Pfarrplatz and walk down Rabengasse.
- Stop by the Steiner Tur, the only remaining medieval gate in the city and stadtpark before heading back to the train station.
- Take the 9:47am train from Krems (Krems/Donau) and arrive in Melk (Melk) at 11:02am.
- After leaving the train station, grab some food and start walking along Linzerstrasse and see the Haus am Stein and the Altes Post.
- Continue walking along Hauptstrasse and get an impressive view of the Melk Abbey.
- Head up to the Melk Abbey and spend a few hours inside this massive monastery as well as the surrounding gardens.
- Hop on the Danube River Cruise at 1:50pm and arrive in Spitz at 2:40pm.
- Walk around the city center and see the Altes Rathaus and the local Pfarrkirche.
- Make sure to see the Ruine Hinterhaus up in the distance before leaving.
- Pick up a rented bike around 3:15pm and ride to Durnstein (6.82mi.) arriving around 4:30pm
- Locate the Durnsteinkirche and take a tour of the inside, including the
- Hike up to the Durnstein Castle ruins for an amazing view of the city and the Danube River.
- Walk back down and spend the remaining time in the city walking along Hauptstrasse and seeing the Town Hall and many other well preserved buildings from the 1500s.
- Continue riding the bikes further down to Krems (4.5 mi.).
- Return the bikes around 6:00pm.
- Take the 6:03pm (7:03pm) train from Krems (Krems/Donau) and arrive in Vienna (Franz Joseph Bahnhof) at 7:04pm (8:04pm).
- Take the U-Bahn from Friedensbrucke to Schwedenplatz and get dinner before spending the rest of the evening in the city.
- Stay the night in the Hostel Ruthensteiner.
Day 26 – Sunday, October 10th: (Sunrise: 7:06am, Sunset: 6:16pm)
- Wake up early and sightsee.
- Pick up Vienna Boy's Choir Tickets at 8:15am.
- Sightsee some more until 9:00am.
- From 9:15am-10:15am go to mass at the Hofburgkapelle and hear the Vienna Boys Choir.
- Quickly make way over to the Vienna State Opera House and pick up matinee tickets for the opera Cardillac.
- Enter the opera house a bit early, and walk around one of the worlds most famous opera houses.
- Enjoy the opera from 11:00am-1:30pm.
- Get some lunch between 1:30pm-2:00pm.
- Make the short walk to Belvedere Palace and enter it around 2:15pm.
- Finish Belvedere Palace around 4:15pm and walk back towards central Vienna.
- At 4:30pm enter Karlskirche and explore one of Vienna's many iconic churches.
- After exiting the church, walk around Resselpark until 5:15pm.
- Take the 5:18pm U-Bahn from Karlsplatz and arrive at Stephansplatz at 5:20pm.
- Walk over to the Mozart Figarohaus and enter around 5:30pm to see the only intact living place of one of the world's greatest composers.
- Exit the Mozart Figarohaus arouns 6:15pm and head over to the Jesuit Church.
- Enter the Jesuit Church around 6:30pm and spend about a half hour there until 7:00pm.
- Afterwards, get dinner and spend the rest of the night sightseeing.
- Stay the night in the Hostel Ruthensteiner.
Day 27 – Monday, October 11th: (Sunrise: 7:08am, Sunset: 6:14pm)
- Take the 7:15am U-Bahn from Westbahnhof and arrive at Schonbrunn at 7:23am (with a transfer from U6 to U4 at Langenfeldgasse).
- Spend an hour or so walking around the park and gardens that surround the palace.
- At 8:30am, go inside for a grand tour of the palace, see the Crown Prince Garden, the Maze & Labyrinth, and the Gloriette until around 10:30am.
- Take the 10:27am U-Bahn from Schonbrunn and arrive at Schwedenplatz at 10:41am (U4).
- At 10:45am visit Ruprechtskirche, Vienna oldest church, until 11:15am.
- Make the short walk over to St. Stephen's Cathedral and enter at 11:30am.
- Walk around the cathedral and go on a tour of the South Tower.
- Leave the cathedral at 12:15pm and get some lunch until 12:45pm.
- After lunch, walk to the Beethoven Pasqualati House where he lived and composed his 4th, 5th, 7th symphonies and visit the building from 2:00pm-2:45pm.
- Take the 2:52pm tram from Schlickgasse (either the 1 or D tram) and arrive at Rathausplatz at 2:57pm.
- Spend an hour sightseeing the Rathaus, Rathauspark, Burg Theater, Parliament Building, Volksgarten, and Heldenplatz.
- At 4:15pm, enter the Imperial Treasury and see many religious relics such as: a piece of Jesus' cross, and a piece of The Last Supper tablecloth.
- From 5:00pm to 6:00pm, walk around the Burggarten, Hofburg Palace, and Naschmarkt.
- Afterwards, get some dinner and spend the rest of the night sightseeing.
- Stay the night in the Hostel Ruthensteiner.
Day 28 – Tuesday, October 12th: (Sunrise: 7:09am, Sunset: 6:12pm) (train day - aus #6)
- Take the 10:05am train from Vienna (Wien Südbahnhof (Ostbahn)) and arrive in Bratislava (Bratislava-Petrzalka) at 11:02am.
- Take the 11:11am bus 91 from ZST Petrzalka and arrive at Novy most at 11:15am.
- Start walking up to the Bratislava Castle and spend an hour or so touring the castle and the grounds.
- Head back down to the city and grab some lunch before visiting St. Martin's Cathedral at 1:15pm.
- Take a look inside the city's main cathedral and then head over to the Hviezdoxlavov namestie (square) and the Slovak National Theater.
- Walk along Panska Street to the Palffy Palace and then head over to the Hlavne namestie, the main city square.
- See the old Town Hall before walking over to the Primate's Palace at 2:20pm.
- Spend some time inside the palace and stop by the hallway of mirrors as well as the fountains in the outside courtyard.
- Walk along Frankiskanske namestie to the Franciscian Church and the Mirbach Palace.
- Walk back down the street, cross over to Michalska Street and walk up towards St. Michael's Gate and Tower.
- Ascend St. Michael's Tower around 3:15 to get a beautiful view of the city.
- Head over to the Hurbanovo namestie to see the Trinitarian Church.
- Continue walking and reach the Grassalkovich Palace around 4:15pm.
- Walk back to the gardens and see the Archbishop's Palace as well.
- Head back towards the bus stop around 4:40pm.
- Take the 4:43pm bus 93 from Hodzovo nam. and arrive at Hlavna stanica at 4:47pm.
- Take the 5:01pm train from Bratislava (Bratislava Hl. St.) and arrive in Vienna (Wien Südbahnhof (Ostbahn)) at 5:59pm.
- Take the 7:20pm (8:20pm) train from Vienna (Wein Westbahnhof) and arrive in Salzburg (Salzburg HBF) at 9:59pm (10:59pm).
- Stay the night at YOHO International Youth Hostel.
Day 29 – Wednesday, October 13th: (Sunrise: 7:24am, Sunset: 6:24pm)
- Head into the city early and spend an hour or so sightseeing.
- At 8:30am, tour the Salzburg Cathedral and walk inside this iconic piece of Salzburg architecture.
- Around 9:00am, spend some time visiting the famous St. Peter's Archabbey and Cemetery which was founded around the year 700.
- From there, take either the funicular railway or walk up to Hohensalzburg Fortress and enter around 9:30am.
- The fortress is the largest fully preserved fortress in all of central Europe and was built in 1077, and is still unconquered to this day.
- After visiting the fortress, make a quick stop on the way down to see St. Peter's Catacombs from 12:40-1:00pm.
- From 1:00-1:20pm, take some time to visit the Franziskanerkirche.
- At 1:30pm, make way to the Salzburg Residenz to see its state rooms and gallery.
- Once 3:00pm comes around, meet at the Makartsteg and board a boat to get a 40 minute tour of the Old City by boat.
- After disembarking from the boat, may way over to Mozart's Birthplace from 3:45-4:15pm.
- From there, walk over to Mozart's Residence from 4:20-4:50pm.
- From 4:50-6:15pm spend some time sightseeing.
- Around 7:00pm arrive at the Augustiner Braustubl Beer Garden and spend some time there.
- Stay the night at YOHO International Youth Hostel.
Day 30 – Thursday, October 14th: (Sunrise: 7:25am, Sunset: 6:22pm)
- Head into the city early and spend a few hours sightseeing.
- At 9:45am head over to the Mirabell Palace and Gardens and spend some time touring the area.
- Take the 11:09am bus from Mirabellplatz (Mozarteum) and arrive at Hellbrunn Palace at 11:27am.
- Tour the Hellbrunn Palace and its many trick fountains.
- Take the 1:36pm (or 1:16pm) bus from Hellbrunn Palace and arrive at Mirabellplatz (Schloss Mirabell) at 1:56pm (or 1:36pm).
- Meet at the Mirabellplatz at 2:00pm for the Lakes and Mountains Day Trip and get back around 6:00pm.
- Stay the night at YOHO International Youth Hostel.
Day 31 – Friday, October 15th: (Sunrise: 7:27am, Sunset: 6:20pm) (train day - aus #7)
- Take the 5:00am train from Salzburg (Salzburg HBF) and arrive in Hallstatt (Hallstatt) at 7:33am.
- Take the 7:35am ferry from Hallstatt train station to Hallstatt city.
- Board the cable car in Hallstatt and head up the mountain to go on a tour of the salt mines.
- Take the 6:15pm ferry from Hallstatt city and to the Hallstatt train station.
- Take the 6:32 train from Hallstatt (Hallstatt) and arrive back in Salzburg (Salzburg HBF) at 8:49pm.
- Stay the night at YOHO International Youth Hostel.
Day 32 – Saturday, October 16th: (Sunrise: 7:28am, Sunset: 6:18pm) (train day - ger-aus #5)
- Take the 7:10am train from Salzburg (Salzburg HBF) and arrive in Werfen (Werfen) at 7:48am.
- Take the 8:20am bus from Werfen train station and arrive at the Eisriesenwelt Parking Lot around 8:40am.
- Hike up the mountain and take a cable car for a portion of the way before reaching the entrance to the Ice Caves which are 5,380 ft. high.
- Take a 75 min. tour of the largest Ice Caves on Earth!
- Enjoy some great views over the Salzach Valley and Burg Hohenwerfen before hiking back down to the parking lot.
- Take the 11:35pm (or 12:35pm) bus from the Eisriesenwelt Parking Lot and arrive back in Werfen around 11:55pm (or 12:55pm).
- Stop to get a quick bite to eat on the short walk to Burg Hohenwerfen.
- Walk up the mountain and enter Burg Hohenwerfen - a 900 year old castle fortress.
- Go on a tour of the fortress' grounds and inside the castle itself.
- At 3:00pm, witness a birds of prey flight demonstration.
- After the fortress closes at 4:00pm, head back to the train station.
- Take the 5:04pm (or 6:12pm) train from Werfen (Werfen) and arrive in Salzburg (Salzburg HBF) at 5:44pm (or 6:49pm).
- Spend a last few hours in Salzburg, then pick up bags from the hostel and make way to the train station.
- Take the 9:02pm (or 7:51pm) train from Salzburg (Salzburg HBF) and arrive in Munich (Muchen HBF) at 10:30pm (or 9:33pm).
- Stay the night in the Easy Palace City Hostel.
Day 33 – Sunday, October 17th: (Sunrise: 7:36am, Sunset: 6:22pm) (train day - ger-aus #6)
- Take the 6:20am train from Munich (Muchen HBF) and arrive in Ulm (Ulm HBF) at 7:48am.
- Walk across the Danube River and stop by Ulm's Town Hall, the Metzgerturm, or the leaning tower of Ulm, and the Syrlin Brunnen, which is the oldest fountain in the city, built in 1482.
- Walk a little further into the main square and see the Stadthaus and the Ulm Minster, a church with the tallest steeple in the entire world!
- While walking towards the train station, take a detour down one of Ulm's many streets (either Herrenkeller Street or Kohl Street) and eventually make our way back to Bahnhof street to see the Einstein Monument (erected near the place of his birth).
- Take the 11:48am train from Ulm (Ulm HBF)and arrive in Nördlingen (Nördlingen) at 1:31pm.
- After arriving at the medieval city of Nordlingen - where the final scenes of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory were filmed, spend some time walking around and get some lunch.
- Make way to the center of the city and see St. George's Church and ascend over 250 steps up the Daniel Tower to get a great panoramic view of the city and countryside.
- Before heading back to the train station, walk around some more and see the city walls and the medieval architecture of the city.
- Take the 4:14pm train from Nördlingen (Nördlingen) and arrive in Rothenburg (Rothenburg ob der Tauber) at 6:48pm.
- After checking into the hotel, get some dinner.
- At. 8:00pm, meet in Market Square in front of the Town Hall for the Night Watchman Tour.
- On the tour, learn the fascinating story of one of Germanys best known and best preserved medieval cities.
- Stay the night in Rothenberg's Youth Hostel.
Day 34 – Monday, October 18th: (Sunrise: 7:39am, Sunset: 6:20pm) (train day - ger-aus #7)
- Go on an early walk around the city and see sights such as the town walls, spital bastion, St. Jacob's Church, St. Wolfgang's Church, and the rest of the walled medieval city.
- At 9:30am, go inside the Rathaus building and ascend the tower for great views over the city.
- Take the 10:07am train from Rothenburg (Rothenburg ob der Tauber) and arrive in Wurzburg (Wurzburg HBF) at 11:16am.
- Stop by the Stift Haug before walking over to the Wurzburg Residenz and touring the palace and surrounding gardens.
- Walk to the center of the city and visit St. Killian's Cathedral before heading across the Alte Mainbrucke and up to the Marienburg Fortress.
- Spend some time walking through the fortress and the garden area.
- Head back down across the bridge again and stop in Markt square to see the Neumunster and Marienkapelle.
- Walk along Schonbornstrasse to Juliusspital before heading back to the train station.
- Take the 2:05pm train from Wurzburg (Wurzburg HBF) and arrive in Nuremberg (Nurnberg HBF) at 2:59pm.
- Take the 3:08pm S-Bahn from Nuremberg (Nurnberg HBF) and arrive in Nuremberg (Nürnberg-Dutzendteich ) at 3:14pm.
- Spend some time around the Nazi Party Rally Grounds and Zeppellinfeld as well as the unfinished Congress hall (Possibly visit the Documentation Center Museum for 5 euros).
- Take the 4:00pm (or 4:14pm) S-Bahn from Nuremberg (Nürnberg-Dutzendteich) and arrive in Nuremberg (Lorenzkirche) at 4:16pm (or 4:21pm).
- Spend some time in St. Lorenz Church before heading back outside and across the bridge to the Hauptmarkt.
- Stop by the Frauenkirche for a bit and then walk by the Schoner Fountain.
- Walk along Weissgerbergasse towards St. Sebaldus' Church and the Old Town Hall.
- Continue walking towards Kaiserberg and spend some time on the castle grounds.
- Start heading back down towards the train station, stopping at the Castle Garderns and Albrecht Durer Haus.
- After crossing the bridge again, walk over to the Marriage Fountain before heading to the Lorenzkirche U-Bahn stop.
- Take the 5:36pm U-Bahn from Nuremberg (Lorenzkirche) and arrive in Nuremberg (Bärenschanze) at 5:41pm.
- Spend some time at the Justice Palace where the Nuremberg Trials were held.
- Take the 6:00pm U-Bahn from Nuremberg (Bärenschanze) and arrive in Nuremberg (Lorenzkirche) at 6:05pm.
- Head over to the train station.
- Take the 6:27pm train from Nuremberg (Nurnberg HBF) and arrive in Munich (Muchen HBF) at 7:39pm.
- Spend about an hour to go back to the Easy Palace City Hostel to pick up/re-pack bags before heading back to the train station.
- Take the 8:39pm train from Munich (München Hbf Gl.27-36) and arrive in Fussen (Fussen) at 10:44pm.
- Stay the night in House L.A. Hostel.
Day 35 – Tuesday, October 19th: (Sunrise: 7:40am, Sunset: 6:19pm)
- Take the 7:31am bus from Fussen (Fussen Bahnhof) and arrive in Hohenschwangau (Hohenschwangau, Schwangau (Schlosser)) at 7:40am.
- Spend an hour or so hiking and sightseeing around Hohenschwangau Castle.
- Hike up to Mary's Bridge (Marienbrucke) around and see the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle.
- Enter Neuschwanstein Castle around and go on a 35 minute guided tour.
- Spend some time walking around the castle before taking a shuttle bus back down the mountain.
- Take the 1:55pm bus from Hohenschwangau (Hohenschwangau, Schwangau (Schlosser)) and arrive in Fussen (Fussen Bahnhof) at 2:04pm.
- Once back in the city, head over to Hohes Schloss and St. Mang's Abbey and tour the inside of both places.
- Walk around the old town and see the Holy Ghost Church and the Town Hall.
- If there's time, walk down to the Lech River waterfalls and catch a glimpse of the castles.
- Head back into the city and walk along Reichenstrasse towards Forgensee.
- Grab some dinner and enjoy the town for the rest of the evening.
- Stay the night in House L.A. Hostel.
Day 36 – Wednesday, October 20th: (Sunrise: 7:41am, Sunset: 6:16pm) (train day - ger-aus #8)
- Take the 8:00am bus/train from Fussen (Fussen Bahnhof) and arrive in Garmisch (Garmisch-Partenkirchen Bahnhof) at 9:59am.
- Hop on the 10:15am cog railway from Garmisch and arrive at Eibsee at 10:45am. Continue up to Zugspitzplatt and arrive there at 11:28.
- Spend some time at this peak before hopping on the cable car up to the summit. (4 minutes)
- Spend some time on the tallest mountain in Germany and see the four surrounding countries from the peak.
- Continue on the journey and take the Eibsee cable car down the mountain (runs every 30 minutes, 10 minute ride).
- Either take that 1:15pm or the 2:15pm cog railway back to Garmisch and arrive at 1:50pm or 2:50pm.
- Spend some time sightseeing in the city before heading back to the train station.
- Take the 2:04pm (or 3:04pm) train from Garmisch (Garmisch-Partenkirchen Bahnhof) and arrive in Mittenwald (Mittenwald) at 2:25pm (or 3:25pm).
- Take the 5:04pm train from Garmisch (Garmisch-Partenkirchen Bahnhof) and arrive in Munich (München Hbf Gl.27-36) at 6:27pm. (alternative - if Zugspitze takes longer than expected)
- Take the 4:37pm train from Mittenwald (Mittenwald) and arrive in Munich (München Hbf Gl.27-36) at 6:27pm.
- Spend about an hour to go back to the Easy Palace City Hostel to pick up/re-pack bags before heading back to the train station.
- Take 7:23pm train from Munich (Muchen HBF) and arrive in Heidelberg (Heidelberg HBF) at 10:53pm.
- Stay the night in Steffi's Hostel.
Day 37 – Thursday, October 21st: (Sunrise: 7:55am, Sunset: 6:24pm)
- Wake up early and walk through the city to the base of Heidelberg Castle (either walk or take the Bergbahn up to the top).
- Spend some time in the castle before hopping on the Bergbahn and heading up to Konigstuhl.
- Either walk or take the Bergbahn down the hill to the Old Town to grab some lunch.
- Stop by St. Peter's Church, Heidelberg's oldest church, and then head over to the Old and New University of Heidelberg.
- Go inside the Karzer Student Prison and possibly the University library before walking along Hauptstrasse to see the Der Ritter and the Marktplatz.
- Visit the Church of the Holy Spirit as well as the Town Hall and then walk over to the Kornmarkt and the Karlsplatz.
- After spending some time in the city, walk across the Alte Brucke and up the hill on the Philosophers' Way path before reaching Heiligenberg.
- Continue walking to reach the Thingstatte and Michaelkloster.
- Walk back down to get dinner and then when it gets dark, head back up to the castle to sit in the gardens and enjoy the view of the city all lit up.
- Stay the night in Steffi's Hostel.
Day 38 – Friday, October 22nd: (Sunrise: 7:57am, Sunset: 6:12pm) (train day - ger-aus #9)
- Take the 6:15am train from Heidelberg (Heidelberg HBF) and arrive in Tubingen (Tubingen HBF) at 8:23am.
- Spend a few hours walking through the old University town of Tubingen, one of the only completely intact historic towns of Germany, with history dating back to 85 AD.
- Wander around the Altstadt (old town) and see landmarks such as the Rathaus (City Hall) on Marktplatz (Market Square), St. George's Church, and the castle, Schloss Hohentübingen.
- See the Stiftskirche which was one of the first to convert to Martin Luther's protestant church.
- On the way back to the train station walk along the Neckar Island and enjoy some great views of the river, city, and castle.
- Grab some lunch to go before heading to the train station.
- Take the 10:34am train from Tubingen (Tubingen HBF) and arrive in Hechingen (Hechingen) at 11:02am.
- Take the 11:25am bus from Hechingen (Hechingen) and arrive at Hohenzollern Castle parking lot at 11:47am.
- Visit Hohenzollern Castle.
- Take the 4:05pm bus from Hohenzollern Castle and arrive in Hechingen (Hechingen) at 4:24pm.
- Take the 4:30pm train from Hechingen (Hechingen) and arrive in Munich (Muchen HBF) at 8:17pm.
- Stay the night in the Easy Palace City Hostel.
Day 39 – Saturday, October 23rd: (Sunrise: 7:45am, Sunset: 6:11pm)
- Head into the city in the early morning and see the Viktualienmarkt and Marienplatz as well as the Old Town Hall and St. Peter's Church.
- Stop by the Frauenkirche and tour the inside to catch a glimpse of Emperor Ludwig IV's tomb.
- Walk over to the Bavarian State Opera and then spend some time in the Hofgarten.
- Stop and tour the inside of the Theatinerkirche.
- While walking back towards the train station, grab some lunch for the later part of the day.
- Meet at Munich HBF (across from platforms 32-34 for the Dachau Concentration Camp Tour at 11:00am.
- Walk over to the Konigplatz and sightsee in the area as well as Karlsplatz before heading back to the train station.
- Meet at Munich HBF (across from platforms 32-34) for the Beer and Food Tour at 6:00pm.
- End the tour at the Hofbräuhaus and spend the rest of the evening there.
- Stay the night in the Easy Palace City Hostel.
Day 40 - Sunday, October 24th: (Sunrise: 7:46am, Sunset: 6:09pm)
- Take the 7:49am U-Bahn (U3) subway from Geotheplatz and arrive at Peteulring at 8:03am.
- Spend an hour or so walking around Olympiapark - the site of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
- Around 9:00am, go inside the Olympic Stadium and walk around.
- At 9:45am, ascend the Olympic Tower and have a great view of Olympiapark and Munich.
- At 10:15am, walk over to the BMW Museum, and enter it around 10:30am.
- After the museum, take some time to get lunch around 11:30am.
- Take the 12:31pm U Bahn (U3) subway from Peteulring and arrive at Marienplatz at 12:42pm
- Head over to the Munich Residenz Palace at 1:00pm and enter the museum as well as the treasury and chapel inside.
- Take a 3 hour city tour with Sandeman's Walking Tours from 3-6pm.
- Stay the night in the Easy Palace City Hostel.
Day 41 - Monday, October 25th: (Sunrise: 7:48am, Sunset: 6:07pm)
- Start walking through the city and stop in St. Michael's Church around 8:00am.
- Head over to the Asamkirche at 9:00am and tour the inside.
- Climb St. Peter's Tower after and get a great view of Marienplatz.
- Continue walking around and grab some lunch to go
- Take the 11:14am S Bahn (S3) tram from Marienplatz and arrive at Munich HBF at 11:17am.
- From 11:30am until 2:00pm, learn about Munich's history during WWII on the Third Reich Tour.
- Around 2:30pm enter the Deutsches Museum, the world's largest museum of science and technology and leave around 4:00pm.
- Head over towards the Landtag of Bavaria and continue walking along the Isar river.
- See sights such as St. Lukas' Church and Maximillionkirche.
- Walk over to the English Garden and spend some time at the largest park in Munich.
- Stay the night in the Easy Palace City Hostel.
Day 42 - Tuesday, October 26th: (Sunrise: 7:49am, Sunset: 6:07pm) (train day - ger-aus #10)
- Spend an hour or so sightseeing in the city.
- Take the 9:05pm Tram (17) from Reichenbachplatz and arrive at Schloss Nymphenburg at 9:29pm.
- Spend a few hours touring the Nymphenburg Palace and walking around the grounds.
- Take the 12:03pm Tram (17) from Schloss Nymphenburg and arrive at Sendlinger Tor at 12:23pm.
- Pick up the bags from the hostel and grab some lunch before walking to the train station.
- Take the 1:15pm train from Munich (Muchen HBF) and arrive in Munich (München Flughafen Terminal) at 1:55pm.
- Take the 3:45pm flight from MUC and arrive at LAX at 7:05pm.
